It is amazing how the left uses lies to smear their opponents.
Browsing the Internet today, I was taken to a October 6, 2006 post on Captain’s Quarters by Ed Morrisey. Mr. Morrisey was commenting on the fact that Playboy Magazine had listed him as one of the top ten political blogs. At the end of the post, Mr. Morrisey added his appreciation to Rush Limbaugh and linked to a previous June 18, 2006 post in which he disclosed that Rush had e-mailed him regarding back pain and gave him advice about avoiding addiction.
This post was, in turn, picked up by Joe Gandelman at The Moderate Voice. Mr. Gandelman played it pretty straight, simply linking with a brief neutral “guess who” comment as a teaser to get the reader to click the link. In the comments section, however, someone called Chippedchips posted what he claimed was a transcript from a Limbaugh show. Chippedchips claimed that, in November 3, 1988, he “recorded it off Dallas, WBAP 820 AM Talk/News radio.” Chippedchips alleged that Limbaugh stated
"And now the liberals want to stop President Reagan from selling chemical warfare agents and military equipment to Saddam Hussein, and why? Because Saddam 'allegedly' gassed a few Kurds in his own country.
"Mark my words. All of this talk of Saddam Hussein being a 'war criminal' or 'committing crimes against humanity' is the same old thing. LIBERAL HATE SPEECH! And speaking of poison gas . . . I SAY WE ROUND UP ALL THE DRUG ADDICTS AND GAS THEM."
This is so unlike Limbaugh’s usual tone that I checked out internet myth debunker www.snopes.com (an invaluable resource) and found out this is yet another internet myth.
It is not unusual to find internet myths making the rounds. Any sufficiently incautious person can fall for one. The key here is that this Chippedchips guy falsely claimed to have actually recorded it himself. Chippedchips knowingly added yet another falsehood to the hoax in order to make it sound more credible and to smear Rush Limbaugh. Chippedchips is a liar.
